A healthier take on a classic comfort food, using lean ground turkey and a vegetable-packed sauce.
In a large skillet, brown 1 lb lean ground turkey over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat.
Add 1 diced bell pepper, 1 diced onion, and 2 cloves minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, 2 tablespoons tomato paste, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon chili powder, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a simmer.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow flavors to meld.
Serve on whole wheat buns with your favorite toppings.
